Welcome to the board Peeringin. Mics on a stick started back in the 70's. The cords were pain in the ass. They keep getting tangled. It was great to go wireless in the 90's but for awhile we would get police and fire department singnals coming in from time to time. So nothing new under the sun in jw world. Takr cars. Has God broken the Sabbath?
by joey jojo inin the early 80's, i remember a district convention drama that featured the story of the guy that was stoned to death for gathering sticks on the sabbath.
i thought it was kind of harsh because it wasn't like the guy was doing any real work like building anything, or plowing a field.. if we accept that god is perfect, then surely he would set the example of keeping the sabbath in a perfect way.
the word sabbath means inactivity as far as i can tell and this leads me to ask a question about things god has done during his rest day that seem like work to me.. .

It makes as much sense as the movie Star Trek 5 when Kirk questioned god by saying "What does god need with a starship?" In other words it#s all made up. Still Totally ADD

Pale.Emperor Summons Some Demons

and then there was always that paranoid person that would shut us up "in case they're listening"?
and the resident crazy every congregation seems to have that claims to have been possessed at some point?.

Alternate military service pre and post 1996 witness policies. Please comments.
by benny inwhat are the thoughts on the changes made by the society in the 1996 watchtower [new light] where one can then accept alternate army service where before you would have to be sentenced to do this.
i feel many were sent to prison needlessly or even executed.
this was not a matter of conscience as the watchtower claims..

Growing up knowing I might go to prison caused alot of stress in my life. It would of been nice if I could have done alternate service as a option. I was lucky because the Vietman war was coming to a end and I got a high lottery number. When it comes to CULTs all young people are sacrificial lambs to the cult god. Still Totally ADD

Kingdom Hall Renovation
by geevee inhi all, quick question related to renovating k halls.. my in-laws live in another city and the two congs there are in a ten week process of completely renovating the hall.
the plaster board has been taken off, all the toilets and air cons even the roofing iron and insulation are being pulled out and dumped to be totally replaced.
it seems like overkill to say the least.

If they are pulling the insulation out and taking the wall boards off it sounds like they may have a problem with mold. But it maybe for resale. Still Totally ADD

Do You Think Disfellowshipping Is The Worst Thing About Jehovah’s Witnesses?
by minimus inthe longer i’m out the more i feel that disfellowshipping is cruel.
i understand the organization tells parents to not even accept emails or texts from their disfellowshipped children.
while i was a witness they tried to discourage families from association but there was some leeway if it was considered necessary business to interact.

It's bad but I feel the sexual and emotional abuse on the children is worst. Making young children to act like adults with no social skills. Exposing them to material at the meetings they have no business hearing. Dressing them in suits and dresses forcing them to knock on doors selling maz. or whatever they do today. No building of self esteem but instead telling them all the time that god will kill them if they are not good. The wt. and other cults like them have done more harm to children that we can ever imagine. Yes DFing and shunning is bad but it's just the icing on the cake for all the other abused that takes place in this cult. Still Totally ADD
